"When the Music fades and all else is stripped away..." are the words students heard as they entered worship on Sunday. They were handed prayer cards to assist them in FOCUSING their minds and hearts on prayer and worship. They entered a room that was lit by candle light where the Cross was the center piece.
We started a four week sermon series FOCUS. This week we focused on prayer. Not only spending time in but how we respond to prayer and how we pray. We looked at the words and the focus of our prayer. Are we praying for US/ME... or are we praying and carrying on a conversation with God and the focus is on Him? We also talked about our posture during prayer. Perhaps clasped hands are not enough. What if we stood? What if we lay down? What if we looked up instead of down? What if our hands were stretched out and not in our pockets? We need to change our posture during prayer. We should do this for no other reason but to serve as a reminder that we are in conversation with the creator of all and that His posture is toward us and open to us as we pray. We also looked at our time in prayer. We need to focus in and take time to pray and be with God. Sure we are to live a life of prayer... but squeezing God into our schedules is not what that means.
Pray to God and move the focus of prayer away from you/us but to God.
Change your posture during prayer so you can be reminded to not fall into a routine and so you can be reminded by your posture you are talking to the creator of all.
Focus in and take time with God. Pray continually.... but also pray intentionally.
Next week we will FOCUS on Worship.
